The Gyrotonic® method
History of Gyrotonic®
THE GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® WAS CREATED BY JULIU HORVATH, A GYMNAST AND DANCER OF ROMANIAN AND HUNGARIAN ORIGIN.
After suffering serious injuries during his career, Horvath moved in 1977 to the island of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands, where he devoted six years to the study of yoga and meditation. From this immersion emerged new perceptions of movement and its healing power, which gradually led him to develop a completely new training method.
Transforming the ordeal of pain into an inspiring quest, he designs a unique approach that combines fluidity, grace and power, while deeply respecting the body and its joints.
Gyrotonic® is much more than just a technique: it's a true revolution in body awareness. Today, it appeals worldwide to those seeking well-being, vitality, and freedom of movement.

The Gyrotonic® method
The Gyrotonic® method is a unique training system that addresses the entire body, mobilizing all joints and muscle chains in a coordinated manner and through their natural range of motion without compression. It combines circular and spiral movements with rhythmic and synchronized breathing. It is practiced using specially designed equipment, allowing for sequences inspired by yoga, swimming, tai chi, and dance.
Key principles
1. Three-dimensional movements
Unlike traditional exercises which are often linear, Gyrotonic® mobilizes the body in all directions — spirals, circles, undulations — promoting natural and global mobility.
2. Breath-movement coordination
Each movement is synchronized with breathing, which amplifies fluidity, concentration, and energy flow.
3. Strengthening and flexibility
The system develops both core strength and flexibility, while protecting the joints. It is a gentle yet powerful method, suitable for both athletes and people in rehabilitation.
4. Mind-body balance
Inspired by yoga and dance, the method seeks to harmonize the physical and mental, providing a feeling of well-being and vitality.
Benefits
Improved posture and alignment.
Deep muscle strengthening.
Injury prevention and rehabilitation.
Increased mobility and coordination.
A feeling of lightness, energy and freedom in movement.

The Gyrokinesis® method
Gyrokinesis® is the "sister" discipline of Gyrotonic®. Unlike the latter, it requires no equipment: it is simply practiced on a mat and/or a chair, making it accessible everywhere.
Key principles
1. Circular and wave-like movements
The body is mobilized through spirals, curves and waves, promoting flexibility of the spine and joints.
2. Rhythmic breathing
Each movement is accompanied by a specific breathing rhythm, which stimulates the circulation of energy and improves concentration.
3. Fluidity and continuity
The sequences flow together like a dance, with a meditative dimension that connects body and mind.
Benefits
Improves mobility and postural alignment.
Develops strength, flexibility and coordination without joint stress.
Releases tension and relieves stiffness.
Promotes a feeling of vitality, energy and well-being.
